Modems - How to configure cable access

Getting Conneted to the Internet: Cable Modem

Getting connected to the Internet with a cable modem under Linspire is very easy! Most cable modems in the USA use ethernet cables like the ones in the picture below to connect to the Internet.

Ethernet cable
One end connects to your cable modem (provided by your Internet Service Provider or ISP) and the other end connects to a network card in your computer. If your ISP has given you a cable modem that uses a USB connection instead of an ethernet connection then you will probably have to purchase an ethernet cable. Almost all cable modems offer the option of both types of connection. Linux connections for USB cables are more complicated, so it is recommended that you stick with ethernet cables instead.

Once you get your cable modem connected to your network card via an ethernet cable you just simply turn on your Linspire computer and it should connect to the Internet automatically! If it does not connect automatically you can go to the Control Center and adjust your network settings. To do this just go to the "L" menu in the lower left and then go to Settings > Control Center and then select Network. If you get stuck, you can start a post in the Linspire forum and someone can assist you with getting connected.
