Getting connected to the Internet: DSL

DSL is very easy to connect to the internet. Go to your provider's installation packet and install all of the hardware as the instructions request you to. Do NOT install the Windows Software. You do not need it. When all of the hardware is installed, go to L> and then Settings and then Control Panel. Click on Network and then PPPoE Configuration.

You will see a screen like this one:



Simply type in the username and password provided by your DSL company, click OK and you are ready to go! You may have to call your DSL provider to get them to give you a username and password.

An alternate way to setup a DSL connection is to use a Broadband router. If you have a broadband router that supports PPPoE, you can go to the router setup page (It could be anything, but is often 192.168.1.1 typed into a web browser) and find PPPoE setup and type in the same username and password your DSL provider gave you. You plug the Broadband Router into the DSL modem and plug your computer(s) into the router. Now you can connect automatically!
