The Linspire Desktop
The Desktop is the default screen that you see when Linspire starts. From here you can launch programs, open windows, and navigate to other locations in your computer. The desktop is a metaphor that is used in the computing world. Think of it like your desktop at home. You might have a desk that you sit at when working on things like paying your bills? On your desk there are tools like pens and pencils, a stapler, a pad of paper, a book of stamps, your checkbook, and a stack of bills. To accomplish your task you reach for the tools on your desktop and you use them for specific purposes. In the computing world, your desktop functions in a similar fashion. When you first turn on your computer, it loads the desktop and waits for you to access various tools. You can get to these tools by double-clicking on icons that are on your desktop. You can also click on the menus to navigate to these tools (like the Launch menu in the lower left hand corner of the screen). To see a picture of the default desktop in Linspire: click here.
When you are done using the tools (or programs) and you close the windows you will see the Linspire desktop again. You can also change the settings on the desktop by moving your cursor to a place where there are no icons and clicking the right mouse button. If you do this and choose "Configure Desktop" it will allow you to change things like the Wallpaper that is displayed.
