Buy Linspire - Digital Delivery

Another very popular method of obtaining Linspire is "digital delivery". This is mainly designed for people who have broadband, high-speed Internet connections. The digital versions of the software are:

1. Cheaper then the boxed versions
2. Always current. You can download the latest version whenever you want to.

The digital versions of Linspire are distributed as ISO files (with a .iso extension). An ISO file is a "CD image". These images are not a collection of files or folders but an exact duplicate of the raw data of the original disk, sector by sector. You cannot open an ISO file or see the contents of what is inside -- but, you can use a CD burning program to make an exact copy of this image. The way it works is this:

a.) You download the .iso file from the Linspire server.
b.) You use a CD burning program to "write an ISO image" (most of them have this option)
c.) After you write your image to a blank CD-R you can use this disk to install Linspire!

In order to use the digital delivery method with Linspire you will need the following:

1. A high-speed Internet connection like Cable or DSL. (These files are too big to download on a dial-up modem!)
2. A CD-burner (any CD-R or CD-RW drive should work fine)
3. A CD burning program like: Nero, Easy CD Creator, NTI CD-Maker, etc..
4. Some blank CD-R disks to record to

If you have all of these things, then the Download and Burn method of getting Linspire might be a good option for you. To sign up for the digital download of Linspire you can go to their homepage: www.linspire.com and click on the "Buy" tab. Then, click on the image for "Buy Linspire":

The best value is the "CNR Edition". This offers you the Linspire operating system and a one year membership to the CNR warehouse. With this package you will have an operating system and access to over 2000 programs that you can install with a single click. Click the link that says "Buy Now" to add one to your cart:

After you complete the check out process and your purchase is complete you can log into the my.linspire.com web site to download your files. After you log in, click the link on the left that says "My Products" then click the link for "CD Downloads". Here, you will see a list of all of the .iso files that you can download. If you are not sure which one you want then you should download the current one that says: "Installation CD"

After you have downloaded the .iso file to your hard drive you will have to burn it to a CD before you can install it. Open up your CD burning program (note: the default CD burning program that is built-into WindowsXP will not allow you to burn .iso files!). Then, look for an option that says: "Write ISO image" or "Burn CD image". Then, when prompted, located the .iso image that you downloaded from the server. Next, put a blank CD-R disk into your drive and click the OK or WRITE button to begin burning your .iso disk image.

When the disk is finished burning, you are ready to install Linspire! Please note that the installation will erase your hard drive and replace it with a default installation of Linspire! If you have not backed up your data you should keep on burning some more CD's to back up all of your important files before you attempt to install Linspire! Once you are ready to install, you simply reboot your computer and place the installation CD that you created into the CD-ROM drive. After you computer reboots you will be presented with the Linspire installation screen.
