Linspire

Linspire (previously known as LindowsOS) is an operating system targeted towards desktop users. It is based on Debian GNU/Linux.

One of the unique features of Linspire is a software installation system called CNR. The company behind Linspire, Linspire, Inc. have also developed several open-source applications including Lsongs, Lphoto, Nvu and PhoneGaim.

After Linspire version 5.1.427 , Linspire version 6 is based on Ubuntu. For any info on Linspire after version 5, please refer to www.linspire.com or www.freespire.org

Other Editions:

  • Developer's Edition - like the regular edition it also has many of the most popular development tools and libraries installed so that you won't have to CNR them later.
  • LinspireLive! - a version of Linspire that runs directly from CD, no installation required. Mainly used for demonstration/evaluation purposes. CNR is not available in this version. Previously known as LinspireCD.
  • Thrillseeker's version - an unstable pre-release for testing only by insiders.
  • Linspire Español - Spanish version.
  • Linspire Italiano - available in retail stores in boxed versions bundled with CNR Subscriptions, and preinstalled on computers from Italian Linspire partner Questar.
Obsolete Editions:
  • Laptop Edition - Discontinued. The laptop edition was merged with the regular Linspire release. If you have a laptop, the power management is in CNR.
