Modems - How to configure dial-up access

Getting connected to the Internet: Dial-up Modem

To connect to the Internet with a dial-up modem connection, you will need the following:

  • A Linspire compatible dial-up modem (Visit http://www.linspire.com/hcl for a list of supported modems.)
  • A phone line
  • A phone cable
  • An account with a Linspire-supported Dial-up Internet Service Provider (ISP)

The instructions for connecting to the Internet with a dial-up connection vary depending on your ISP. To find a Linspire supported ISP and for specific instructions for each of the different supported ISP's, click on the Internet Connection Tools icon on your Linspire/LindowsOS desktop.

If you see your current ISP's icon in the Internet Connection Tool, click on the icon and follow the instructions found there to setup your connection information for that ISP. If you do not see your ISP listed, click on the Internet Dial-up Tool on your desktop and follow the steps below to set up the necessary parameters to connect to your ISP.

After opening the Internet Dial-up Tool, click on the Setup button.

Click New and then Dialog Setup at the following screens to reach the New Account screen.

Type in a name for your connection, such as "myisp". Click Add to add a phone number to this connection. Then type in the phone number provided by your ISP.

Other settings should be left alone unless otherwise specified by your ISP or the Linspire Support staff (also, see Advanced Note below for further options).

Click OK on the following screens to go back to the Internet Dial-Up Tool. Type in your Login ID and password in the appropriate fields and click Connect to connect to the Internet.
